Boredom can sometimes feel like a problem you can't solve with screens:
“I just can't figure out anything fun to do!”
That's exactly how we are going to address the challenge today. It is a creative problem solving technique called "The Strange Expert". Below you'll find instructions and inspiration on just how you'll get the most out of this "exercise".
And just to let you know, this assignment is a true hidden gem and an all-time favorite among children. Often this is also the gateway to the child's personal, amazing imagination.
Choose the expert: Let the child decide who will help him/her in this case. The expert can be:

A real person
e.g. Lionel Messi, a president, a grandparent, a famous singer

A known character
e.g. Moomin Troll, Princess Elsa from Frozen, a super hero

An imaginary creature
a dragon, an alien, a robot

Set the stage for the expert: “What to do, if I can't use screens?”
Jump into the role
Ask: “What would this expert suggest?”




Note every idea
Write down all suggestions — even the silly, quirky, or slightly “crazy” ones. That’s where the best ideas often begin!

Choose one idea and try it out
The child gets to decide which idea will be explored today.

tell the child that today he/she gets help from "a strange expert".

let the child decide, who the expert will be.

“What would you do, if you were bored?”

make a long list of ideas on paper (you can also draw).

Choose an idea, and make it happen.

remind the child that he/she created the solution by himself - this little technique was just the seed of inspiration.
